I'm finally getting around to posting Ollie's birthday party; better two months late than never I suppose. The party was held at Grammie and Poppy's house and the weather was unseasonable warm. We decided to keep the guest list small so that Ollie wouldn't get too overwhelmed and we had everything timed out around his nap schedule. As usual, things never seem to work out as planned.
After going to 8:00 mass, we headed home to finish party prep and rest up for the festivities. Daddy went to pick up ice while I put Ollie down for his nap. He fell asleep just as planned and I got all my last minute things together before heading to party central.
Just before I left, I peeked in on the birthday boy only to notice that his leg was sticking through the crib railing. I considered leaving him be, but decided that the position couldn't be good for his circulation, so I pulled it out. This was not a good idea because this disruption woke him up and made him very angry.
About this time, Daddy was back from the store. He was more than a little aggravated with me since my poor judgment put a kink in our plans. Either way, I had to head to Grammie's to finish prepping the food, so I left Ollie in Daddy's capable hands and wished him luck.
Just our luck, Ollie never went back to sleep and poor Daddy eventually had to call in reinforcements so he could get dressed for the party. Aunt Theresa came to the rescue and headed to our house to hang with Ollie so Daddy could get ready.
With Aunt Theresa's help Daddy managed to get himself and Ollie dressed and to Grammie's house by 1:05. They were only 5 minutes tardy for the party. The birthday boy wasn't in a bad mood, but he wasn't thrilled about the party either. I hoped this would change as things got rolling, but the fact that he hadn't napped was in the back of my mind and I was anticipating a meltdown at any moment.
Ollie mingled and didn't grumble too much when I put the silly party hat on his head.
Once all the guests arrived we enjoyed Honeybaked Ham, mac and cheese, baked beans, and a variety of snacks. As usual Ollie enjoyed all the food, especially the ham.
After eating, we decided that opening gifts would be a good idea because Ollie would probably be full of icing after cracking into his cake, so we headed to the family room to tackle the pile of packages. He got many nice gifts, but couldn't seem to put down the CAT dump truck from the Millers. Great choice Chad!
That is until Aunt Theresa revealed the John Deere Buck!
He got so many nice gifts that we weren't sure where we were going to put everything. Much thanks to everyone!
Next it was on to the cake! At first he didn't know what to do with it, but soon enough he was digging in.
Apparently Ollie's Godparents think pumping him full of sugar is part of their job description.
Eventually he slowed down and gave up.
Then went back to mingling, but only after a quick wipe down.
Tyler got the award for most creative use of party hats.
And Macie got the prize for accessorizing with style.
Much too soon, the party was over. Thankfully Ollie managed to not melt down or fall asleep, but as soon as we got home he changed into some comfy clothes and crashed in his bed. Of course it may have been from the sugar coma.
Thanks to everyone for helping make his day special and sorry it took so long to get the pics up. Maybe I'll be caught up on the blog by his 2nd birthday. By then we'll have an addition to the cast.

The Lost Episodes
For a variety of reasons The Mollie and Ollie Show was almost dropped abruptly without completing its first season. However, after a 6 week hiatus, the writing department has recovered and hopes to remain energetic enough to continue on a regular basis once again. Now to catch you up on the activities since last episode.
10/1/2009-Ollie committed his first break in, but the judge let him off with a warning because it was his first offense.
10/2/2009-Ollie sat up on his own while hanging out in the basement. Of course his bottom was sunk into the cushy bed and his head was on my arm. However, he was still very proud of his accomplishment.
10/3/2009-Ollie got his first flu shot in the morning and luckily he had no adverse reaction. In the afternoon we were off to Woolfest with Grammie and Poppy. Ollie rode a pony, looked at tons of animals, and renewed his love affair with goats. Oh, and he shared an ice cream cone with Daddy.
10/4/2009-October birthday dinner at Grandma's. Even though Ollie is an October birthday buddy, this was just for Grandpa and me. Uncle Jeremy and Aunt Peggy joined the festivities and the best part was Ollie managed to not freak out when Jeremy held him.
10/7/2009-While watching Daddy clean his work truck Ollie managed to have his first taste of a leaf. Mostly, we just enjoyed the cool weather and being outside.
10/10/2009-Grandma helped me clean the house. Ollie managed to wiggle his way underneath his crib, but after all that work passed out on the floor.
10/11/2009-Pumpkin Patching with Molly, Tyler, and the gang. Ollie once again LOVED the goat in the petting zoo.
10/14/2009-My 33rd birthday. I worked all day, Ollie stayed with Grandma, and we ate pizza at Grandma's for dinner. Ollie enjoyed his first personal pizza handmade by Grandma. Ollie's Halloween costume arrived, so of course he tried it on and immediately turned into a pirate. I spent most of the day contemplating the fact that I was pregnant two birthdays in a row. Hopefully next year I'll be able to enjoy a glass (or bottle) of wine.
10/15/2009-We were supposed to meet Aunt Peggy for lunch, but Ollie developed a slight cold complicated with teething issues, so instead we stayed home. We spent the evening playing in Ollie's new toy corner in the living room. He was still not feeling great, but seems to love having his own space. Daddy and I are still adjusting to Ollie's ever-expanding stuff, but we decided to embrace it considering we have no other option.
10/18/2009-Still teething so we were up much of the night. Skipped church and relaxed all day.
10/20/2009-Worked all day while Ollie stayed with Grammie. Watched Daddy mow the grass and Ollie got to take a ride. I had to work at 6:00 am the next morning, so Ollie spent the night with Grammie and Poppy. Even though we dropped him off just before bed time, the house seemed empty when we got home.
10/21/2009-I worked 12 hours and could barely walk when I got home. Sciatic issues were back with a vengeance so Daddy took care of Ollie while I rested. Someday I'll learn not to over do it...maybe.
10/22/2009-Slept in and tried to kick back all day. Relaxed outside enjoying the beautiful weather.
10/23/2009-I worked all day and Ollie stayed with Grammie. Grandma helped us grocery shop for Ollie's birthday party and then hung around to feed him dinner. Although I was looking forward to the party, I felt totally overwhelmed with chores and the fact that my sciatic was messed up once again.
10/24/2009-Spent all morning running last minute errands for Ollie's party. Grandma came over after lunch to help prep all the food. Once most of the chores were under control, we headed to Grammie's with all the party gear/food/favors to visit with Aunt Theresa, AJ, and Ollie's favorite lady, Anna. He enjoyed opening his first birthday gift and especially flirting with Anna. He also seemed somewhat confused when AJ walked through the door. I guess that makes sense considering how much he and Daddy look alike.
So that's the activity since the last installment. Also, once I started to look pregnant Speck was renamed Deuce. I'm finally over morning sickness, but I've really been having issues with the sciatic nerve and fatigue. Hopefully the writing staff won't go on strike again and we'll be able to keep the new episodes coming. Stay tuned.
