When Harry Met Ollie
3/13/10
Harry wakes up to this crazy world. I'm sure he was more comfortable inside, but I was glad to empty the cargo.
All morning in the hospital was hectic with doctor visits, hearing tests, and nurses checking up and prepping us for discharge. By the afternoon it was time to come home and we were thrilled. After a long, uncomfortable night all three of us were ready to get home and get cozy. Not to mention we missed Ollie dreadfully and couldn't wait to introduce him to his brother.
When we arrived all four grandparents and Ollie were waiting impatiently. I couldn't wait to see Ollie's reaction to the little person, but I was also worried he'd freak out. Here's what happened (don't complain about the cinematography, Grandma's an amateur).
The fun was about to begin and we're on our way to answering the question if brothers can be friends.

New Cast Member Arrives
We arrived at St. Elizabeth around 1:00 am on March 12 and checked in at the birthing center. For some reason the woman that works the desk is so mean and unwelcoming, but I killed her with kindness even with my contractions that were growing stronger by the second.
After being poked and prodded by various hospital staff (I hope) I was finally assigned my own room and was able to have everyone come visit. I was working through the pains pretty well, but eventually chickened out of going natural and asked for an epidural.
As is only my luck, the anesthesiologist came to my room almost immediately, but within minutes they determined my blood work had not been processed yet, so she was going to leave me to do another patient and be back shortly. Meanwhile my contractions were growing stronger and I was feeling more and more exhausted from the lack of rest over the last 36 hours.
Finally I heard her cart rolling down the hall toward my room, but just as quickly as she entered, another nurse came and asked me if her patient could go before me because she so far along that if she didn't get it immediately she would lose her opportunity. Of course being the nice person I am, I said certainly but on the inside I was dying. This panicked Jason, but he was trying very hard to keep it together for me.
After what seemed like an eternity, the anesthesiologist finally arrived once again. I suppose waiting made the sweet release of the epidural even more amazing than I remembered from Ollie's birth. Now we would be able to rest for a few hours before it was time to push. Somehow Jason was able to doze off almost immediately, but I was wide awake with anxious nerves. I took this time to text message Uncle Jeremy to check the status of the Bentley Estate.
When it was getting close to arrival time the doctor, 3 nurses, and 3 nursing students (no modesty here) arrived to assist/witness. I'll spare the gory details, but by 10:15 am I was pushing, by 10:45 a very hairy head appeared, and by 10:51 I was holding my sweet baby...BOY! He was 9 lbs, 1 oz and 21 inches long. His hair looked red, but we weren't sure and his limbs were long and lean. He definitely took after my mom's family.
We had pretty much decided (but refused to tell anybody) a boy would be Harrison Leo or a girl would be Harriet Rose, but once we saw him we knew Harry would suit him perfectly. Daddy and I enjoyed some time to get acquainted with the little guy and give him the opportunity to eat for the first time. Just like Ollie, he took to the whole food/boob thing right away...my guys like to eat! Then he got his first bath in preparation for his first visitors.
Then it was time to let in the grandparents! They managed to not cause a stampede entering the room and I'm not sure if they drew straws in the waiting room, but they took turns in an orderly fashion holding they newest member of the family.
After everyone got the chance to hold and coo at the little guy, the exhausted group headed home. Grammie and Poppy were going to relieve Aunt Julie and Uncle Jeremy of Ollie duty and Grandma and Grandpa were going to take Betsy. The babysitting crew wanted to swing by to see their newest nephew.
Now it was time to relax, recuperate, and hopefully get some shuteye.

Since Our Last Episode V
March
Hanging with Daddy watching tractor pulls.
Feeding Grandma's cows.
Not too much activity the first half of March. I was ready to pop and Daddy was working long hours. Thank God for Grandma and Grammie because they helped almost daily with Ollie. By this time I could barely pick him up because my belly was s0 big. I am very grateful Ollie is laid back because a hyper child would have been impossible. He was very mobile by this point and even started to mimic my waddle. Unfortunately I could never catch him on video.
I started having irregular contractions on March 7th. Needless to say I wanted that baby out of my body, but I had no clue how I was going to deal with two little people. By the 10th I didn't think I could take it anymore, so I headed to Sableux for a pedicure to speed things up. Within 24 hours I started having contractions every 15 minutes...all day long. Grandma stayed with me to help with Ollie and to be ready in case we had to head to the hospital. Daddy reluctantly headed off to work, but called approximately 37 times. By 5:00 Daddy was home and the contractions were no closer together, so Grandma headed home leaving me in my guys' hands.
I ate dinner and tried to rest. Finally around 9:00 the contractions subsided and I was able to doze off. When I woke up at 11:15 to a really strong and long one, I knew it was game on. I woke Daddy up so he could be my time keeper and within 10 minutes had my doctor on the phone confirming my hospital reservation. I called Grandma and Uncle Jeremy while Daddy notified Grammie and Aunt Julie.
While Daddy gathered our bags I quietly approached Ollie's room so I could tell him goodbye. After a gentle, teary kiss I was about to leave when he quietly opened his eyes and almost smiled at me and then promptly fell asleep again.
Within 3 minutes Grammie was at our basement door in full makeup and hair fixed (apparently she went to bed that way so she could be out the door within seconds of our call). This was great because I was afraid I didn't have time to wait for Uncle Jeremy and Aunt Julie to arrive as planned to watch Ollie.
Before we walked out the basement door I had Daddy snap the pictures below, knowing that once again our lives were about to change forever......

Even though there was no baby, February was an exciting month because Ollie started walking.
I really thought I was going to have the baby in February even though my due date was not until March 18th. By mid-month I was so uncomfortable and completely unable to sleep for more than an hour at a time. We passed by birthday after birthday (Grandma, Daddy, Uncle Jeremy, and many friends) and no baby. With each passing birthday I became more and more convinced that this baby was never going to exit my body.

Helping Prepare for Baby
January was a long cold month. I LOVE snow, so it was difficult to not be able to slide down the hill with Ollie. I did manage to make it outside some, but being the klutz that I am, I decided to lay low in the snow. By the end of the month the baby was moving around all day and night which made me really uncomfortable. Everyone was getting excited about baby's arrival, especially me since I really don't enjoy pregnancy. Even Ollie was pitching in preparing for a roomie.

Since Our Last Episode II
December
Practiced Walking Everyday
Festival of Lights with Grammie and Poppy
St. Nick Visits
Trying to get a Christmas Card Pose
Firewood
Holiday Junction and Museum Center and Meeting Santa Claus
Hanging with Miss Macie
Horse Park Christmas Lights with Grandma and Grandpa
Wrapping Presents
Christmas Eve-Ollie had a terrible cold, so Christmas Eve was moved to our house to accommodate him
Cookies for Santa
Christmas Day-Feeling a little better, Ollie was able to make it to Grammie's for Christmas Day.
Harry continued to grow, but I felt pretty good other than heartburn and fatigue. Ollie was still not walking without help, but he could pull himself up. Both Daddy and I caught Ollie's cold, so we spent the last week of December feeling miserably. It was so much fun to see Ollie enjoying the activities of the holidays. He wasn't crazy about Santa, but hey, I think Santa's kinda creepy too.
As we geared up for 2010, I took time to reflect once again on how our lives have changed. I was finally getting used to being a mom and having a child, but having another one on the way was freaking me out...and Daddy too.
