No Hay Jose

So today was hectic as usual. This morning we went to Sandy's funeral. Mass was beautiful and the reception after was touching, but it was sad to say goodbye. It was also nice to see some people that I haven't seen for a while, but I would have preferred to reunite for a more joyous occasion.

After the funeral, Ollie and I headed home for lunch and a nap. We certainly deserved a rest after such a sad morning. Besides, I was really dragging because I didn't sleep very well last night with Daddy coming home so late (he was at a tractor pull).

When Daddy got home, we were off to Grandma's. When we arrived, the very first thing we did was check out the garden. The corn is about 8' tall, so tall that Daddy and Ollie nearly got lost in the row. We have a melon starting and Daddy's pumpkins are practically overtaking the garden. Best of all, we should have a tomato any day!

Daddy was planning to help Grandpa roll hay bales, unfortunately the hay was still too wet even though the sun was shining.

However, they did take the opportunity to prepare the baler and tractor so they could get right to work when it was dry enough. Ollie LOVED watching this activity. The noise and moving parts mesmerized the little guy and watching Daddy and Grandpa was an added bonus.

After the tractor excitement, Ollie and Grandma decided to relax in her backyard swing. He's learning to hold on for dear life. Everyday, it's looking more and more like he's going to be a lefty and the swing helped demonstrate how difficult it was for him to hold on with his right hand. Oh well, they say lefty's are more intelligent...they don't live as long, but they are more intelligent.

After such a long day, we made sure to have Ollie home and in bed by 8:00. He couldn't handle another late night out and certainly was exhausted after such a long day.

Tomorrow we'll be cleaning and going to Devou to see the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra in the evening. Hope it doesn't rain.

I'll Love You Tomorrow

Not too much to say today.

Ollie slept in the morning, apparently exhausted from the Hay Extravaganza '09. I worked all day and he stayed with Grammie. Daddy went to a tractor pull this evening, so I'm hanging with Betsy and Petunia thinking about my less than stellar motherhood day.

First, I caused my poor little guy to get mosquito bites all over his feet and I'm beating myself up over it. I'm sure this is just the first of many, many times I will cause him distress, but I really should have known better.

Second, I bumped Ollie's head on bathroom door frame as we were headed back to his room post bath. He was totally relaxed, and then started crying and looking at me with eyes that asked, "Why would you do that to me, Momma?"

Lastly, I didn't take a single picture all day.

No Mother of the Year nominations for today's performance.

Days like today remind me that even though I feel like a motherhood understudy, and that I have not rehearsed enough, the audience is waiting and the show must go on. Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

Hay Fever

I was too tired to blog last night and not much happened yesterday anyway. I worked today and Ollie hung out with Grandma. This was very eventful because Grandpa was putting in hay, so there was much activity for Ollie to observe.

Apparently Ollie sat on the tractor with Grandpa and thought he was driving. When it was time to get back down, so Grandpa could get back to work, Ollie held onto the steering wheel and didn't want to let go.

When Daddy and I arrived Ollie was taking a cat nap, waiting for the real action to start. Once he heard my voice, he woke up and was ready to check things out. He watched Daddy, Uncle Jeremy, and Noah load the wagon and then unload then bales into the loft.

By the time the hay was finally in the barn, it was already past Ollie's bed time. We ate a late dinner of ham and green beans, squash, and cucumbers (all fresh from the garden) and then headed home to put baby boy to bed. I thought for sure he would fall asleep in the car, but instead he talked the entire drive home. I guess he had to tell us about all the new things he saw today.

Tomorrow Ollie's off to Grammie's and I'm off to work. I really should get to bed....
