After breakfast we headed home to rest up for Ollie's first fair experience. We knew he would be overstimulated by the fair festivities so we were determined for him to have a long nap and solid meal before we walked out the door. Grandma, Grammie, and Poppy were all joining us, so once Ollie woke up, we sent out the bat signal that we'd be ready to leave shortly.
First, we headed to the petting zoo. At first Ollie was intrigued by the animals, but the rooster was exceptionally loud and every time he let out a cock-a-doodle-do Ollie would jump and start to whimper. The piglets we cute and the sheep were nice, but once again Ollie was most attracted to the goats. This is so funny because he could easily talk Grandma into any other animal, but Grandpa has banned goats from the farm forever. I guess forbidden fruit is always the most attractive.
Next, we headed to the midway to check out the rides. Once we found the carousel I knew I had to go on his first ride, even if it upset Speck. I had tears in my eyes the entire time we rode, and even though I'll blame it on the pregnancy hormones I know that had nothing to do with it. I can't believe he's big enough to ride the carousel!
Since I claimed the carousel, Daddy got to do Ollie's first pony ride. This was actually quite funny because Daddy had a hard time keeping up with the pony. Ollie loved the real pony even more than the carousel, and held on just like a pro. Of course he already had practice at Macie's birthday party, but he really is a natural. Just as the pony ride was ending, we started feeling some raindrops.
It rained for about 45 minutes which gave Ollie the opportunity to eat and have a diaper change in the fair office courtsey of Ricky Dale. It was nice to get out of the rain and regroup, but since it seemed as if the rain wasn't slowing down, we planned an escape involving Daddy fetching the car and meeting us at the gate. Just as we stepped out of the office, the sun peeked from behind the clouds and the rain stopped.
Ollie was thrilled to be able to take another spin on the carousel and pony ride. This time Daddy and I switched duties, which worked out way better. Daddy always does better with things with motors and I'm more suited to animals.
After a quick fish sandwich we were all ready to head home. Ollie passed out for 3 1/2 hours, sleeping through his dinner, oh and so did Daddy and I. He got up, ate his cereal and prunes, took a bath, and downed his bottle before heading right back to bed. The fair really wears a little guy out.
Tomorrow I'm off work, but we have many chores to tend to. Hopefully, we'll all sleep through the night.
