We spent most of the day outside enjoying the beautiful weather. Our main projects were working in the landscaping and planting flowers in our many pots. First we made a list of necessary plants and supplies and after lunch we headed to Lowe's to spend some money. Grammie wanted to tag along since she loves flowers and gardening in general. With both of our mothers being so good with plants, you would think Jason or I would have inherited a green thumb somewhere along the way. I don't think that's the case.
I amaze myself at least once a day with what I am able to do while holding Ollie. Somehow, I lifted two bags of potting soil onto my cart while balancing the little fellow on my hip. I vaguely remember mothers discussing the hip thing pre-motherhood, but now I totally understand. And to think Daddy can't even chew gum while carrying Ollie. I guess that's why Mother's Day is a WAY bigger deal than Father's Day.
Once we were home it was time to get down to business. Grammie helped unload the car then went home to work in her own garden. After a quick diaper change, another layer of 5,500 SPF sunscreen, and picking out a hat I strapped Ollie into his stroller and we were ready to plant. I had no idea how entertaining this could be for a 6 month old, but he laughed and laughed for 30 minutes while I dug holes and planted in the front yard. I supposed it could have been my singing along with the radio, which will undoubtedly embarrass him terribly someday. Just as I was really getting into the groove the fussies set in and his cheeks turned red. He was so thirsty, he finally mastered drinking water from his sippy cup.
Grandma stopped by while Ollie was drinking. She was so proud, but she should have realized that tilting one back would come naturally to the little boozer, I mean bruiser. The reason Grandma stopped was to drop off some baby yogurt. I am constantly taken aback by the wide variety of baby stuff available, but yogurt! What's next? Baby sushi? Baby hot sauce? Baby beer(I might be on to something there)? Anyway, the prunes can always use reinforcement, so we'll give it a try.
Once Daddy got home he took over with baby duty so I could finish up the planting without distraction, or at least as many distractions. He reports that the turkey and broth was still not a favorite, but Ollie managed to choke down a few spoonfuls and gobbled up the green beans. This was good practice for Daddy since I'm heading back to work soon.
After a quick bath the sleepy gardener was off to bed in his big boy pajamas. Tomorrow will be busy, so this sleepy gardener is making her way to bed too. We're having lunch with Eric and going to visit my former co-workers at Paycor.
I LOVE the Big-Boy PJ's !!!
