Moody Blue

Not such a fun day today. Ollie went to Grammie's around 10:00 this morning so I would have time to finish up my training. I had so many technical difficulties that I nearly blew a gasket! What should have taken about 6 hours is now running into approximately 12 or 13. Of course I'm not having second thoughts about going back to work. Insert sarcastic smirk here.

After picking up the little guy around 2:30, I headed home for some relaxing one-on-one time. Was I crazy to think this would go well? Of course I was, because within 10 minutes of arriving home the slobbering, crying, and chewing started. I really felt bad for him, but could his timing had been any worse? Before we knew it I was crying too, which I'm certain exacerbated Ollie's situation.

Luckily, Grandma stopped by to say hello. She had the magic touch because he calmed down almost immediately when she walked through the door. Come to think of it, I did too. All mothers seem to have that calming ability, so maybe some day I'll hone that skill.

Daddy had to help a friend with some plumbing this evening, so he came home for a few minutes, saw our tear-stained faces and fled. I can't say that I blame him. Unfortunately, I really could have used some help with Mr. Teeth.

How can Ollie go from the sweetest baby on the planet to crazed lunatic in 2.3 seconds? I'm not sure, but I guess he takes after his mother. Once he gets worked up, there's no turning back. I rocked, danced, sang, bounced, you name it. Nothing was helping. He even sobbed between gulps from his evening bottle. And since I have a strict policy that no one cries alone in my presence (just like Truvy), I eventually joined him. Even Betsy and Petunia were getting worked up.

Finally, Daddy came home! As soon as Ollie saw him he started smiling and even giggling. What? I really need to work on the motherly calming effect. After only a few minutes he was rubbing his eyes and looking ready for bed. Thankfully, Ollie went right to sleep without even a moments fussiness and Betsy and Petunia passed out too.

Today has been a tough one and I still have about 2 more hours of training to complete. Hopefully I'll be able to open my swollen eyes tomorrow morning and I won't need two tons of concealer, but I'm not betting on it. I just hope I don't accidentally eat prunes for breakfast.
