Today's report starts at 12:15 this morning. Yes, morning. Ollie has been sleeping through the night for 4 or 5 months, but the night before I start my new job, he wakes up screaming. We could not calm him down for anything and we're not sure what caused the episode except maybe over-exhaustion from the Mother's Day festivities or teething. Either way, Daddy and I were like zombies trying to figure out what to do. We tried rocking, using a pacifier, walking, bouncing, swinging, singing, you name it. Finally some Orajel and a small bottle soothed him and we were back in bed by 1:45.
Luckily, we had planned for Grammie to be at our house around 7:30, so Ollie didn't have to get up earlier than normal. This was a great idea, but of course he was up at 6:00 instead of 7 or 7:30. You know what they say about the best laid plans. It ended up working out because I was really dragging and struggling with entertaining Ollie while getting myself ready (it takes time to cover up puffy eyes with dark circles). I'll never get used to the unpredictability of having a baby.
The first day at work went well and somehow I managed to focus on all the paperwork and training. I think they call that motherly adrenaline. I picked Ollie up around 1:15. Grammie couldn't get over how much he loves the prune/cereal mixture. Next, we went home to have lunch and get some chores done. We also managed to sneak in a nap before Daddy got home.
A hectic night and draining morning made us one lazy family. We ate dinner and headed outside to relax. After chatting with the neighbors (Ollie giggled and giggled with Marsha) we landed on the swing. The laughing continued with Daddy and even Betsy got in on the tickling.
Now, both Ollie and Daddy are sound asleep and I'm enjoying a few moments of peace and quiet before I join them. Working on top of everything else is going to be a challenge. I'm confident I will succeed, with tons of support that is.
